Puerto Rico (also fondly called Borinquen), is a US commonwealth that lies in the Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin island group. The main islands include Puerto Rico (where the capital San Juan is located), Culebre, Mona, and Vieques.
Aside from its rich native heritage, Puerto Rico, the Land of Enchantment, has a strong Hispanic influence, having been a Spanish colony since the time of Columbus; it later became a part of the US after the Spanish-American war of 1898.
Among Puerto Rico attractions include: beaches such as those at Condado and Luquillo, resort hotels; dive sites (eg, San Juan, Mona); and golf resorts (eg, Rio Mar).
