The county of Monterey in northern California, with Salinas as its county seat, is world-renowned for its coastline.
Monterey's coastal portions include the 17 Mile Drive (photo by JW is of the Pebble Beach area), the Big Sur, and parts of the Pacific Coast Highway or US State Route 1.
The other cities/communities of Monterey county include Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove, Soledad, Monterey, Del Rey Oaks, and Gonzales. In Monterery county can also be found the Pebble Beach Golf Links - which is among, if not, the leading public golf courses in the US - and resorts.
