The cruiser USS Olympia, a US National Historic Landmark, played a vital role in redefining the course of American history, particularly in the Pacific arena. Back in 1898, with the USS Olympia as his flagship, Commodore George Dewey defeated the Spanish armada under Admiral Patricio Montojo in the Battle of Manila Bay in the Philippines.

The USS Olympia remains afloat today and forms part of the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
